  • 01. Angel In Heaven +

There's a new thing going round people let me put it down
Down in the street out in the park
One less hurting soul walks this lonely town
    One less aching heart

Grand slammed to the promised land party goes all night
Cab guy pays you to take the ride
Getting tanned on the Rio Grande of perpetual light
There's another angel in heaven tonight

There's a new thing going down people let me bring you around
Above your feet down in your heart
Take your curtain call wear it like a crown
There's no use faking this part

Grand slammed to the promise land take the red eye flight
    Cabernet washing down a bite
Getting tanned on the Rio Grande of perpetual light
There's another angel in heaven tonight
There's another angel in heaven that's right
There's another angel in heaven tonight

  • 02. Feel For You +

I probably past you in a crowd and walked away
And never stopped to say hello
And now I wonder how things might have changed that day
If we'd gone down a different road

I beg your pardon would you like to share some wine
It's a sunny day we should make time
We'd talk and talk about the way things ought to be
I feel for you you fall for me

And maybe then we'd catch the same train out of here
Arrive at dawn and walk the beach
And sometime after morning coffee on the shore
    Footprints go into the sea

I beg your pardon would you like to share some wine
It's a sunny day we should make time
We'd talk and talk about the way things ought to be
I feel for you you fall for me

And maybe then we'd catch the same train out of here
Arrive at dawn and walk the beach
And sometime after morning coffee on the shore
    Footprints go into the sea
    Footprints go into the sea

  • 03. Out of the Water +

You made me complete when you made me a lover
You made me a king when you made me a father
you made me an angel you made me a daughter
the reason we came out of the water

You give me love you take my hand
You make me free to walk your land
You make me safe to swim your shore
    They meet forevermore

You made me a lover when you made me a son
you made me a singer a song to be sung
you made me a dinner and I have begun
a season to be in your sun

You give me love you take my hand
You make me free to walk your land
You make me safe to swim your shore
    They meet forevermore

  • 04. Love is the Word +

I was down in the alley with a beer in a bag
Three storey walk up apartment a smoke and a drag
I was beat up at home so I came out to hide
She walked down the street and looked to the side

Whatever made her speak I will never know
she talked about life and where we should go
Reached for my hand with a flash and a smile
OK why not just for a while

It's nothing she said it's just something I heard
When hearts talk love is the word

We went to the river and put in our feet
No sirens were howling no dogs in the street
The full moon reflected on the shimmering flow
The first thing she said was the last thing I know

Whatever made her speak I could never tell
She opened the gate and flooded the well
Dropped in her bucket and drank from my soul
She headed for home and said I could go

It's nothing she said it's just something I heard
When hearts talk love is the word

  • 05. Wrong Way Through Sacramento+

I spent some time in a barn with some wine
    best time I ever spent
    there's a feeling I found round a corner downtown
that ain't once let go of me yet
By the time I told you I'd try to renew
I'd forgotten my way home and then
I took a wrong way through Sacramento
Now I'm stuck here in Lodi again

I spent my life with a house with a wife
goin' along with whatever was planned
now most of the time I want to be on my own
and the rest of the time I am
    should have gone straight through
    but my driver couldn't do
what I needed him to and then
I took a wrong way through Sacramento
Now I'm stuck here in Lodi again

Tried to get back to you
but I did not get through
    stuck here in Lodi again

  • 06. Out Of Here +

People running round the office floor
    people spinning the revolving door
To get ahead in front of Fred to get some more
People tell me if I've got it wrong
Baby maybe you have heard the song
Give up your wife give up your life you'll get along

I'm on my 14th job and my 5th career
a few more payments and I should be clear
Or did the 7th son get the 13th beer
It won't be long till we're gone for good
the pope sadaam or Robin Hood
    I'm walking out of here

People wasn't me who wrote this scene
I'm not living in a magazine
The things I want you haven't got in your treasury
People tell me if I've got it wrong
we don't get to ride this pony long
You know one day you get bucked off and then you're gone

I'm on a brass plated elevator going down
when my feet touched ground they left town
I took a hike past the lost and found
    You're 37th floor ain't my home
keep your useless goals keep my desk keep my phone
You take the best I'll take a rest
I'm Out Of Here So gone Out of Here

Forget what you know go where you feel
the consequences are not yet real
there's too much on the table now
    to change the deal
forget what you sow by the time that it grows

    you'll be long gone
    but you'll be dead wrong
    you should be brought down
    this is our town

preach at the people say what to think
their watching CNN and Fox and
    they don't even blink
make war with Mustafa make bread with Beijing
forget what you sow by the time that it grows

    you'll be long gone
    but you'll be dead wrong
    you should be brought down
    this is out town

    you'll be long gone
    with nice shoes on
    who did you walk on
    our town

  • 08. Love Comes Around +

I can't wait 'till love comes around again
I know it's just around the corner
Can't wait to receive what she sends
you know she really sends me

There's a light in the church shinning through the snowy pines
Is someone really there I wonder if he'd mind

If I asked for love to come around and warm me like a fire
I hope and I pray that she comes
    It's all that I desire
You know she really sends me

    Love Made
I seed your love I weed your love
I watch for sunlight in your sky above
Dive in your love I swim your love
I hold my breath and stay deep in your love

If the world were mine to plunder I would be content
In just one town and in that town In one house alone
And in that house in one single room And in that one room
Just one bed for there sleeping Is the one I love

I seed your love I weed your love
I watch for sunlight in your sky above
Dive in your love I swim your love
I hold my breath and stay deep in your love

  • 10. Dancing Around the Fire +

Long ago when the Earth was free not trampled by society
Before the banks and MTV before the weather was on channel 3
Beneath the streets beneath the town and ancient place an ancient sound

Rise up in the ancient heart kindle a strange desire
open your soul to the ageless part come dancing around the fire

Long ago when my soul was free not blinded by my salary
When I could cry and not be ridiculed or waste my heart just by going to school
People watched the stars at night and all they saw and all was light

Rise up in the ancient heart kindle a strange desire
open your soul to the ageless part come dancing around the fire

  • 11. Independence Day  +

I know I'm not supposed to but I really love LA
Even with the smog from the cars on the freeway
You couldn't see Palos Verdes but could see the Milky Way
    From Malibu on Independence Day

I know I'm not supposed to but I love the USA
Hope they get a government there that feels the same way.
And fills the jails with lobbyists and the people that they pay
    In Washington Independence Day

Land of the Free? Free my ass
Money talks that's the ruling class
Screw the wounded vet, bonus out the brass
I wanna drive my kid to school but they only sell me gas

Talk about Free Speech but what a price to pay
For saying what you really think if you're coloured or you're gay
Didn't want to eat in that diner anyway
    Can of beans Independence Day

I know I'm not supposed to question the FDA
Keep the prices high so dealers get good pay
Knowing that all the people will keep toking anyways?
    Got a light? Independence Day

Land of the Free? Free my ass.
Money talks not the middle class
    Subsidize tobacco criminalize grass
I want to buy some slow food but they only sell me fast

I know I'm not supposed to but I love the USA
I know it's not in style this year but I love the USA

  • 12. Painted pony +

Golden rocking horses circle round three by three
Around and round the flash calliope
Ride your painted pony like the circus never ends
French kiss the fortune teller for me

Thousand faces spinning round like planets round the sun
Million light bulbs flash in beveled mirrors
Jingle jangle music wipes away your every tear
Ride around away from all the fears

Golden rocking horses circle round three by three
Around and round the flash calliope
Ride your painted pony like the circus never ends
French kiss the fortune teller for me

Thousand faces spinning round like planets round the sun
How'd you recognize the one that's free
Jumped away dusted off stumbled into me
Kissed the fortune fella real sweet

Golden rocking horses circle round three by three
Around and round the flash calliope
Ride your painted pony like the circus never ends
French kiss the fortune teller real sweet

May you find a place a place to rest
foxes have their dens and birds their nests
wander where you will valley o'er the hill
    where you love the best

May you find the one take a hand
be in love make that wish upon a star
just remember when you're in love
    you're everywhere everywhere you are
    everywhere everywhere you are

  • 14. Wakes and Dreams +

They set sail to find a land of freedom
Robbed from them by kings and princes here
Who filled their jails with people they called rabble
fleeced them blind and ruled by lies and fear
lined their pockets by the blood of soldiers
then told grieving mothers to be proud
While they hid inside their marble castles
Wakes and dreams gone like so much cloud

When they were young they sang as one
    We won't get fooled again
Never once suspecting it had already began
By light of day they'd lost their way
    No matter what they sang
Wakes and Dreams in silence crept away

    Instrumental

When we were young we sang as one
    We won't get fooled again
Never once suspecting it had already began
By light of day we'd lost their way
    No matter what we sang
Wakes and Dreams in silence crept away

Take your freedom back this time forever
Dreamed of by so many long ago
Tumble down with liars and frauds and cheaters
Who grab the reins of power by stooping low
Prove again that justice has true meaning
Without regard for power or who's a friend
Give your children back what they've got coming
Wakes and dreams that never ever end
Wakes and dreams that never ever end

  • 01. Light Inside   +

    download mp3
Been hitching all night and I ain't had one ride
It's dark and I'm kind of jumpy maybe loosing my stride
When a beamer pulled up with a dreamboat inside
Seemed just like an angel so I got in beside
Took me up around the bend first place I arrived
There was a light inside uh huh a light inside

I got a secret that everyone has
Deans and professors freshmen and grads
You might be hardboiled and you might be fried
Got a light inside, m hmm a light inside

Wherever you're looking you don't stand a chance
You can try Thailand or you can try France
You can try raves and you can try rants
Ain't in her t shirt like it ain't in your pants
Stop right there close your eyes start doing the dance Ya
Do the light inside woh the light inside

Ain't in no movie, ain't in no book
Ain't never gonna find it no matter how hard you look
But it can't be lost and it won't be forsook.
    Light inside

  • 02. World Without End+

    In a summer of love
when I watched the world from above
I dreamed I could fly so high
watched from the sky blink of an eye
    then I came down again

    In an evening of love
you looked in my eyes from above
a halo of stars in your hair
I lay on your sand your wave touched my hand
though we 'd never planned to love

    On a cold winter night
the moon shone a sparkling light
on snow covered land as we began
so we shall end the poem is penned
    world without end
    amen

  • 03. Time's Been Sweet +

Bottle of wine and a bench down in the park
Sneaking into the bushes in the dark
Don't know if I ever saw you standing on the edge of my dream
or walking down the other side of the street
Don't know if we really get to go around again and again
But I know this time's been sweet

Bottle of wine and a bench down in the park
Sneaking into the bushes in the dark
Don't know if you ever saw me standing on the edge of your dream
Or walking down the other side of the lane
Sometimes I know I won't always get to see you
    coming around again and again
But I know I'll be around ‘till then

Make it wine and a smoke down in the park
We can sit on that bench way after dark
Don't know if I really saw you dancing on the edge of my dream
Or walking down the other side of the street
Don't know if we really get to keep on
    going around again and again
But I know this time's been sweet

  • 04. All I See Is You +

I tried so hard All summer through
Not to think too much of you
But the more I try The more I find
I just can't leave the past behind

Times that are happy Are times that are few
And once I was happy When I had you

But days have come and gone Since you were here
Nights are twice as long Without you near
Pictures on my mind Stand out so clear
No matter where I am Or what I do
My darling All I see is you

You're there in every dream I ever dream
There at every place I've ever been
Everyday I find You're in my heart
And on my mind I close my eyes
But I'm not blind I see you still

And when I throw my arms out wide
I find that you're not by my side
But one thing is for sure
Until I do All I see is you

Everyday I find You're in my heart
And on my mind I close my eyes
But I'm not blind I see you still, oh

I won't live again 'Till I'm with you
Oh, darling I won't love again Unless it's with you
So until the day When you are back with me to stay
In every way All I see is you

  • 05. Girl +

All about the girl who came to stay?
She's the kind of girl you want so much
    It makes you sorry
Still, you don't regret a single day
    Ah girl

When I think of all the times I've tried so hard to leave her
She will turn to me and start to cry
And she promises the earth to me
    And I believe her
After all this times I don't know why
    Ah, girl

She's the kind of girl who puts you down
When friends are there, you feel a fool
When you say she's looking good
She acts as if it's understood
    She's cool, cool, cool, cool

Was she told when she was young that pain
    Would lead to pleasure?
Did she understand it when they said
That a man must break his back to earn
    His day of leisure?
Will she still believe it when he's dead?

  • 06. Still Livin' +

She called me up but I was not home
I might be lonely but I'm not alone
I got the message then lost the phone I'm still livin'

They got my silver I got no gold
I got good shoes but they're getting' holes
my real good stuff all got sold but I'm livin'

In the name of the father and the son
Ya I'm a dumb luck winner A lame duck dinner for one
I might be a phony I'm not the only one
I'll breath air I'll be there to see what comes

It's a given it's been driven still livin'

In the name of the father and the son
Ya I'm a dumb luck winner A lame duck dinner for one
I might be a phony I'm not the only one
I'll breath air I'll be there to see what comes

I'd call her back but I got no phone
I got no answer I got no tone
She got my heart You got me home still livin'

In the name of the Father and the son
If I'm done like dinner what happens when the dinner's done
I might take a pony I might run
But I'll be there I'll breath air n' see what comes

  • 07. Snow Box  +

    download mp3
I went back to glory in my snow box
And forgot all Fr. White's sin talks
When a blind guy opened all my door locks
and with a wink darned all of my socks

I picked up the drift but don't know if you'll
My inbox was empty but outbox was full
I blinked down my eyes and I pulled up the wool
And then I had a dream to fill full

Woke up singing in a school house
and followed the instructions of the door mouse
And I warmed by the fire that you can't douse
and may a way better bargain than Faust

Peter went fishing but he didn't need a hook
All he had was nothing and that was all that it took
They jumped in his mouth like a bear in a brook
You've seen the movie now read the book

Now I'm just floating in a dry stream
And I like my coffee baby with cream
You don't need a haircut in a daydream
Nothing ain't quite what it seems

  • 08. Got To Give +

No doubt what you're going to do you need the car and the condo too
How about a different point of view the monkey's free you're in the zoo
You're like a duck and the first thing that he saw
A pretty truck now you love it like a Ma

Sold out to the first deal that you saw give away your days maybe get a raise
I'm out but you might as well not call but even if you could why do I think you would
You don't want advice and you've got no time for fishing
You've got to work and now you've got a TV dish in

You got to give ya deliver the goods some time
Where was it I've heard love is the word I'm trying
You got to live I'm not talking about next time
Could be a hell of a trip it's a hell of a ship we're flying

It's cold out and a storm is on the way but if you can go inside you're ok
I'm out and out I'm going to stay I like the rain and what it washed away
I'm like a kid who just learned the thrill of kissing
I can't believe I never knew what I was missing

I got to give ya deliver the goods some time
Where was it I heard love is the word I'm trying
I got to live I'm not talking about next time
Could be a hell of a trip it's a hell of a ship we're flying

  • 09. One Night+

I went to bed me but I got to sleep you
And you can't get my boat tied up no matter what I do
Fell in the water you then got back out me
The ocean parted my people split and ditched Pharaoh with me

One night stand dreamland with a real good band

I walked across the ocean in up to my knees
A dolphin needed counseling but she couldn't pay my fees
She asked how long I'd felt that way and if I'd seen anyone
And told me it's too late to start because I was already done

One night stand dreamland with a good band

Deep in the earth was a big golden throne
Sitting erect there a dinosaur bone
Blue sky cracked open and crapped on a steeple
We all sang Pharaoh Let go my People

So I sailed down to 4th Street on the dolphin's back
We went past my mom's place then across the track
A young kid that stood by a gravestone smiled back
And said I'm your father I'm your son I'm you and your uncle Jack

One night stand dreamland got a real good hand

  • 10. Mr. Bully Boy +

Thanks Mr Bully Boy we used to have friends
We used to be the one on whom the whole world depends
We used to have integrity we used to have trust
We used to have a treasury that didn't say bust
We used to have kids who could read a fucking book
We used to have leaders that gave what it took
In guns you trust. We get your thrust.

Hey Mr. Bully Boy heat up the planet
Instead of putting out the fire you fan it
Next thing you know it's revenge of the dinosaurs
Won't matter though if it don't touch what's mine or yours
Who knew our oil stocks would double at least
If we turned up the heat in the Middle East
We got the fix in the free market system

Hey Mr Bully Boy put me in jail
Listen to my phone calls and read all my mail
More guys in stir here than there are in Russia
Put ‘em all away and see how that does ya
Justice was a word that used to have sense
Now it's just another barb in your fence
Land of the Free incarcerate me

Go Mr. Bully Boy and play in the sand
You sent all our kids there go be a man
Good cowboys stick up for the little guys
Good soldiers look in dead soldiers' eyes
When they come home in flag and a box
You hide in your Oval Office with the locks
They died for Rome. Welcome them home.

  • 11. Lay Down Your Arms +

Lay down your arms surrender to the boy
No armored heart will ever feel the joy

He called out on a frosty night across the starry skies
So long as there is light and dark let this love never die

Lay down your arms surrender to the void
No angry heart will have it's chains destroyed

No darkness however deep or cold will ever outlast the night
No heartache that the times have brought will ever outlast the light

Lay down your arms surrender to the boy
Lay down your arms surrender to the boy

Collateral damage don't worry we'll manage
To keep it off the back page
If our problem is massive then we can torture the captive
    Pat Robertson says it's ok
And at the Christian Coalition where they got religion
The blacks enter the back way
Oh say can you see who's heart did we bury at Wounded Knee

Because we're democratic we'll stomp the fanatic
Well at least if he's sitting on oil
But if all he's got's shit then he'll sit in it
‘till the snows of Antarctica boil
Let the Janjaweed run free we can't help because we
Have no national interest you see
Oh say can you see who's heart did we bury at Wounded Knee

So vote for me hey, because I'm anti-gay
Got busted with a page boy today
Between now and the news up at 3:00
We'll decide what my story will be
And then we'll procure the junk science whore
Let climate change rain gold on me
Oh say can you see who's heart did we bury at Wounded Knee

  • 13. End That Way +

    Lately I've been dreaming again
I hate to judge too early that my heart's on the mend
    I can't remember when
I'd wake up mornings smiling and daylight was a friend
I probably cared about you a lot more than you ever knew
    I'm sorry but then
You always knew it would end that way

Restless hearts and lonely nights that never seem to end
Vanish like the snow in spring when love comes around again

    Lately I've been dreaming again
A rose that bloomed within a heart decided to sing
And a golden hawk saw a peak in the west
An angel fluttered in his heart and then in his wing
I always knew it would end that way

Who is John Lefebvre? Good Question But then Who is Anybody?
Bobo Rebizzi and Maura-Lynn Menreaux (first appeared in the Moose Jaw Bugle, ©2007)

It has been about 50 years since John Lefebvre's first piano lesson. And 45 since his Aunt Martha passed him her guitar and showed him the chords to The Streets of Laredo. Since then he has played and sung around hundreds of campfires, a thousand nights in basements, and a thousand more late nights at the piano. Like so many kids of his era he dreamed of making records but never really imagined he would. "With all that practice I should have been a lot better but hey, they kept calling out the tunes, I kept trying them. John Pryne, The Who, Patsy Cline, Emmylou, Hank, name it"

He labored, bummed, gardened, tripped, taxied, got busted, eventually went to school and copped a profession. "It didn't go very well and 12 years later I quit to hang out in bars and busk in train stations. Many thought it was a midlife crisis but I knew better. It was a relief, a fulfillment. It was like summer holidays.

"And I had a daughter. That went a lot better. As an infant I danced her in my arms to Heart Attack and Vine. She still loves Tom Waits.... took me to see him In Dublin last summer. Yes, that went a lot better indeed. Now she turns me on to people like Joanna Newsom.

At 45 John tried writing songs, and made a record with Karen Fowlie at Miles Jack- son's studio in Ma Meo Beach. "The players and Karen were great. However speaking for myself, my performance wasn't that great but looking back the writing was, well... It deserved a better performance from me."

In 2006 Danny Patton encouraged John to demo some songs again. John played eve- rything except drums (they brought in Andrzej Ryszka ) and Danny played bass. "When we were done Danny said that we should send them to Brian Ahern. And I'm like Oh sure." Brian started out producing for Anne Murray's first record, Snow Bird, in 1965. He recorded Neil Young live at the Riverboat in Yorkville in 1970. Since then he produced 12 Emmylou Harris albums, 10 more Anne Murray, John Cash, George Jones. He produced songs for just about everybody in Nashville and lots more. Worked with T-Bone Burnett, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson, Leon Russel, Dr. John, name it. Danny met Brian while working with the Alberta band Beautiful Joe. Jane Hawley, Tim Leacock, Steve Pineo, Ross Watson with Danny on bass. "Fat chance" was Lefebvre's reaction.

About six weeks after he sent the demo off to Nashville, Danny was hunched over his computer emailing John that he hadn't heard back from Brian when his phone rang. "Danny? BA. The record's already pretty good. But, you know I think I could work with this guy."

"That was a hell of a day" John recalls. "From there on it was dizzying. We met Brian in Toronto, knocked things around and started making some plans. A few months later we were in Los Angeles and Brian took me to T-Bone's house. We sat in his den, had coffee and he listened to a song on the demo. He suggested we call Jim Keltner first."

"Jim has drummed for John Lennon, the Traveling Wilburys, Bob Dylan, Arlo Guthrie, Mick Jagger, Joe Cocker, George Harrison, John Lee Hooker, Randy New- man, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, Pink Floyd, James Taylor, Boz Scaggs, Manhattan Transfer, Delbert McClinton, Linda Ronstadt, Ringo Starr, Indigo Girls, B.B. King, Rickie Lee Jones, Freddie Hubbard, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Brian Wilson, Fiona Apple, Neil Diamond, the Bee Gees, Jackson Browne, Elvis Costello, Rita Coolidge and Harry Chapin. To name a few. We're supposed to call him? You can imagine what I'm thinking."

"Then he talked about a couple of bass players. The lead break came on the demo of Got To Give. T-Bone says 'Who's that?' I said 'It's me' and T-Bone says 'Well, we've got our guitar player.' I was probably looking like a kid who just got away with something. Jim took the call and the invitation. Everybody we called after that said "sure" once they knew it was Brian and Jim was in."

John asked us to have a look at Dean Parks' discography (deanparks.com). It goes on for about a dozen pages and it does make about a half hour's astonishing reading. John summed it up "Never mind he worked with Michael Jackson and Madonna, Barbara Striesand and Aretha. Dean played on all the Steely Dan. He played guitar for Lowell George. That says it all to me. Ricky-Lee Jones."

James "Hutch" Hutchinson plays bass for Bonnie Raitt. He plays for Willy Nelson, Jackson Brown, Taj Mahal and David Crosby. And many many more.

Greg Leisz plays all kinds of guitars but is best known for slide and steel. John tells us "Greg is simply a wonderful guy. He doesn't talk much about what he does. He came around when we were doing some post tracking work, said he had some sessions out in Malibu, some other stuff. By the time I got home in November I had picked up a couple of CDs. Joni Mitchell's first in about 10 years, John Fogarty and the Eagles' latest. There was Greg on all of them."

Matt Rollings was the youngest player in the band. He plays for Lyle Lovett and toured this year with Mark Knopfler.

Mac McAnally plays acoustic guitar for Jimmy Buffet and is a great song writer.

Patrick Warren plays chamberlain (the eerie retro synthesizer named after the man who invented it in the 50's and that everybody knows from the opening bars of Strawberry Fields) and other exotic keyboards like tack piano, field organ and all kinds of synthesizers and samplers. He also wrote and conducted the string sections on John's record. He has played for Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, the Chili Peppers, and tours with Tom Waits.

And the came Al Kooper. "BA and I were driving across Santa Monica Blvd. when he called Al and told him about the project. Al waited about a second and said 'I'm in.' Now talk about legendary. Al played B3 on Like A Rolling Stone. He was playing at the Newport Folk Festival when the crowd booed Bob Dylan for turning to electric, when Pete Seeger tried to literally axe the power cable to the PA. He started The Blues Project and Blood Sweat and Tears. He did The Super Sessions with Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills. I looked at BA in astonishment. Al recorded with the Rolling Stones, the Who and Cream. His first rock and roll gig was when he was 15. He played guitar on the 50's hit 45 "Who Likes Short Shorts I Like Short Shorts."

Brian Auger is a keyboard player who broke new ground in the 60's British blues erup- tion. His started Steampacket then his band Trinity. Oblivion Express is still at it. He played or toured with Rod Stewart, Tony Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Sonny Boy Wil- liamson, Led Zeppelin and Eric Burdon.

And so John had a band. "There really are no words. It is pretty much impossible for a guy from my day to imagine what it would be like to be in a studio with this crowd much less playing with them much less having them playing your songs. I'd venture to say this was more, literally, than most guys would even dream. And yet when I sat down with them, they were all just ordinary guys. Guys with awesome tales to tell, but ordinary guys all the same. They drank coffee, joked about and just dug the opportunity to play together. They had all played with the prima donnas and knew where that was at, had way more than enough of it. They welcomed me as just another guy. "At Lunch break we'd order in so as to not break up the momentum too much. We'd sit around in the Studio D lounge (Village Recorder, West LA) and they would just bs about tours with Eric, going on the road with Graham and David, the day they went out to Bob's ranch at Malibu to audition and Bob gave them a bag of fresh eggs. The day in New York when they were working on different sessions but met at night in a favorite hole in the wall and jammed with John Paul Jones. Hanging with Ringo. Ordinary guys with extraordinary stories to tell."
